Rejected petition Allow users of the Motability scheme to decide what car they need themselves.
On 9th of October 2011 the Mail on Sunday ran an article stating disabled drivers were being given Range Rovers funded by the tax payer, this inaccurate and shameful article caused a backlash against Motability users despite nothing in the article being true. It led to Lord Sterling and Motability

Changing the scheme and restricting the types and value of vehicles to a maximum of £25,000 this meant those who used or needed larger vehicles would lose the choice of which car the could have on the scheme, the truth is every car on the scheme from smallest to largest was the same cost to the taxpayer, the deposits which were paid by the user varied from zero upto £28,000 for the Range Rover. Money that the user did not get back and would need to pay again after 3 years for next car!
