Rejected petition Call a General Election before Article 50 is enacted.
With the changing leadership of the Conservative party which ultimately means a change in Prime Minister, we, the undersigned, call for a General Election to be called before Article 50 is enacted. This will allow the public to choose who is responsible for our on-going relationship with the EU.
More details
Parliament has the sovereign right to enact the following part of the Fixed- term Parliaments Act.
Section 2 of the Fixed-Term Parliaments Act 2012 states:
An early general election is held if:
If the House of Commons resolves "That this house has no confidence in Her Majesty's Government"; or
If the House of Commons, with the support of two-thirds of its total membership (including vacant seats), resolves "That there shall be an early general election"
In either of these two cases, the Monarch appoints the date of the new election by proclamation.
