Rejected petition ABOLISH THE CURRENT ROAD TAX SYSTEM
In October 2014 DVLA abolished the coloured paper road tax discs.
We were promised a new online system would save the country around £14 million a year.
£93million LOST REVENUE in the first year has been admitted by the DVLA
In this time of austerity, the existing system must be abolished.
More details
The original road tax system was set up around 1921
Previously, coloured discs were placed inside the windscreen and acted as a reminder to the renewal date
DVLA estimated their new system would save the country about £14 million a year
In 2013 the DVLA received just under £510 million A MONTH
In 2015 they received less than £476 million a MONTH
Working on the DVLA “admitted loss” amount equates to LOST REVENUE of six and a half times their predicted savings amount
The existing system is not working
