Petition Require all plastic to be PET to reduce the complexity of the recycling process
While we do need to reduce our reliance on plastics in general, we must not forget that there are plastics which can be recycled 100%, over and over again (e.g. PET). PET is one of the most versatile plastics and can, aside from bottles, also be used for bags, protective packaging, ropes and more.
More details
If every plastic item was PET by default, the recycling process would be a lot more effective, and efficient. It reduces the requirement for sorting and separating the various types of plastic, and for treating them differently according to the type.
The production of virgin PET could then be reduced, and should remain government supervised.
All non-PET should be subject to a "special waste" charge
