Rejected petition Introduce a yearly country wide, mandatory 'Lights Out' event.
With light pollution as high as it is, for years people have missed out on all the night sky has to offer, during the summer months the centre of the milky way is visible to the naked eye but is always out of sight.

Once a year for an hour I propose all street lights and bright light emitting objects be turned off for people to see what most have only seen in photographs.
This would present a fantastic opportunity for all and may inspire younger generations for a future in a scientific field.
Below is an article detailing what levels of light pollution obstruct our view of the night sky.

Why was this petition rejected?
It’s about something that the UK Government or Parliament is not directly responsible for.
We can only accept petitions which call for actions that are the responsibility of the UK Government or Parliament. The Government or Parliament are not responsible for all "bright light emitting objects". Street lighting is the responsibility of local councils. You could raise your idea with your local council. You can find out who your local councillors are, and how to contact them, here:

We only reject petitions that don’t meet the petition standards.
