A scrappage scheme needs to be introduced whereby taxi drivers can trade in their aged vehicles towards the cost of a newer replacement in order to improve the air quality of London and prevent pricing drivers out of the trade.

The Mayor of London’s imposition of a 15 year age limit on taxis undermines the contribution to London transport which is made by taxi drivers and could damage the high levels of professionalism within the trade by pricing out drivers who possess the knowledge.
