Rejected petition Stop charging elderly people for TV licences.

Stop charging the elderly for TV licences
Why was this petition rejected?
It’s about something that the UK Government or Parliament is not directly responsible for.
Since 2018 the BBC has been responsible for any costs associated with providing free TV licences, so deciding to grant free TV licences to people over a certain age would be a matter for the BBC, not the Government or House of Commons.
However, we have published the following petition, which you might like to sign:
Fund free TV licences for the over 70 year old: https://petition.parliament.uk/petitions/549178
We only reject petitions that don’t meet the petition standards.
