Rejected petition Reduce the Deduction of Earnings implementation from 12 to 6 weeks
Rejected on
The original time frame of 12 weeks was introduced before the arrival of the Internet and email therefore now companies can be contacted instantaneously to inform them of a pending Deduction of Earnings.
This would help the resident parent to receive payments quickly, reducing the need for additional services such as food banks or requiring loans. This would also reduce the arrears accrued by those who evade paying child maintenance by frequently job hopping.
Why was this petition rejected?
It’s not clear what the petition is asking the UK Government or Parliament to do.
There isn't a set time for a deduction from earnings order (DEO) to be implemented, but we could accept a petition calling on the Government to require the Child Maintenance Service to put a DEO in place within six weeks of non-payment by a non-resident parent, if that's what you want to happen.
We only reject petitions that don’t meet the petition standards.
