Rejected petition Make assessment tools used to diagnosis Autism Gender neutral

Currently Assessment tools used are gender biased towards males. We are calling for a gender neutral assessment which will flag up the multiple presentations of autistic spectrum condition. The most commonly used tool is ADOS which is Male centric we feel better tools need to be developed.

More details

FIGS-Fighting Inequality for Girls on the Spectrum is a national campaign group set up to raise awareness of autism in girls, protracted time taken to get diagnosis, the impact on mental health and lack of suitable educational provision. A poll of our members showed the average age of diagnosis for a girl is 15 years for a boy it is 5 years. There is clear evidence to show the importance of early diagnosis and support, when this doesn’t happen it can lead to mental health crisis.

This petition was rejected

Why was this petition rejected?

It’s about something that the UK Government or Parliament is not directly responsible for.

The UK Government and Parliament are not responsible for creating assessment tools to diagnose autism.

You could start a new petition asking the Government to fund more research into new diagnostic tools for autism, if that's what you want to happen.

We only reject petitions that don’t meet the petition standards.
