Rejected petition Prohibit Hunterston B Nuclear Power Plant from increasing crack limit to 700

Reactor three at the Hunterston B site in Scotland has not been used for more than six months after worrying footage emerged of deep cracks inside the plant. Owners EDF energy and trade union GMB hope to put the reactor back in service by asking to expand the legal safe framework for cracks.

This petition was rejected

Why was this petition rejected?

It’s not clear what the petition is asking the UK Government or Parliament to do.

Petitions need to call on the UK Government or Parliament to take a specific action.

We're not sure exactly what you'd like the Government or Parliament to do. In particular, we're not sure whether you're concerned about Hunterston B nuclear power station or UK power stations more broadly.

Specific concerns of this kind are dealt with by the Office for Nuclear Regulation (ONR), the statutory safety regulator, which is independent of both the Government and Parliament. You can find out how to raise a concern with the ONR here:

http://www.onr.org.uk/complaints-concerns-whistleblowing.htm

You could start a new petition about safety at nuclear power stations more broadly. For example, you could start a petition calling for a Government review or independent inquiry.

We only reject petitions that don’t meet the petition standards.
