It is their right to use bathrooms they feel safe and comfortable in, without fear of humiliation or harrassment .","additional_details":"Trans women have been using the women's toilets (and trans men the men's toilets) for at least 45 years in the UK. It has never been illegal.\r\n\r\nThe government should ensure that trans people can continue to safely use the toilets appropriate to their gender identity.\r\n\r\nForcing trans women into the men's toilets and trans men into the women's exposes them to humiliation, harassment, and danger.\r\n\r\nIt publicly “outs” them as trans, which the ECHR ruled is a violation of the right to private life (Goodwin 2002). As does requiring them to use separate unisex toilets, which mostly aren't available anyway.\r\n\r\nIn addition, it puts all gender-non-conforming people at risk of being harassed and having security called on them because someone thinks they might be trans.","committee_note":null,"state":"rejected","signature_count":21,"created_at":"2026-06-02T21:52:21.939Z","updated_at":"2026-06-24T16:47:29.994Z","rejected_at":"2026-06-24T16:47:28.469Z","opened_at":null,"closed_at":null,"moderation_threshold_reached_at":"2026-06-02T22:04:50.000Z","response_threshold_reached_at":null,"government_response_at":null,"debate_threshold_reached_at":null,"debate_scheduled_on":null,"scheduled_debate_date":null,"debate_outcome_at":null,"creator_name":null,"rejection":{"code":"duplicate","details":"Disapprove the draft Equality Act 2010 guidance laid on 21 May 2026: https://petition.parliament.uk/petitions/770527"},"government_response":null,"debate":null,"departments":[],"topics":[]}}}
