In our view, the UK student loan system uses an arbitrary date 1 September 2006 to penalise older Plan 1 graduates. Those starting university after this date have debt wiped 25 years after graduation. Those starting just weeks earlier are trapped paying until age 65, some carrying debt for 40+ years. We therefore call on the Government to standardise the rules: write off all remaining debt 25 years after graduation.
