UK government used this vital safety system to push an informative message to the nation despite, in our view, there being no active threat to life. Many have now disabled the notification meaning they won’t have it when a threat arises.","additional_details":"The emergency alert system should be used for active threats to life. Not having a BBQ is not that in our opinion. We think the message sent nationally in August was merely informative.\r\n \r\nMillions found this to be an anxiety inducing event as the EAS is seen by the public as a serious emergency. Many are disabling this on their phones, reducing public safety in the event of a true emergency in the future. The conditions around what should be an acceptable trigger need to be reviewed and tightened to prevent mis-use of the system in the future.","committee_note":"","state":"open","signature_count":12,"closing_date":"2027-03-11","created_at":"2026-08-14T23:14:52.081Z","updated_at":"2026-09-11T20:35:40.000Z","rejected_at":null,"opened_at":"2026-09-11T11:32:00.290Z","closed_at":null,"moderation_threshold_reached_at":"2026-08-15T15:04:00.000Z","response_threshold_reached_at":null,"government_response_at":null,"debate_threshold_reached_at":null,"debate_scheduled_on":null,"scheduled_debate_date":null,"debate_outcome_at":null,"creator_name":"Harrison Pugh","rejection":null,"government_response":null,"debate":null,"departments":[{"acronym":"CO","name":"Cabinet Office","url":"https://www.gov.uk/government/organisations/cabinet-office"}],"topics":[],"signatures_by_country":[{"name":"Canada","code":"CA","signature_count":1},{"name":"United Kingdom","code":"GB","signature_count":11}],"signatures_by_constituency":[{"name":"East Wiltshire","ons_code":"E14001217","mp":"Danny Kruger MP","signature_count":1},{"name":"Ellesmere Port and Bromborough","ons_code":"E14001222","mp":"Justin Madders MP","signature_count":1},{"name":"Hazel Grove","ons_code":"E14001277","mp":"Lisa Smart MP","signature_count":1},{"name":"Newton Abbot","ons_code":"E14001381","mp":"Martin Wrigley MP","signature_count":1},{"name":"Redditch","ons_code":"E14001441","mp":"Chris Bloore MP","signature_count":1},{"name":"Rutland and Stamford","ons_code":"E14001458","mp":"Alicia Kearns MP","signature_count":6}],"signatures_by_region":[{"name":"North West","ons_code":"B","signature_count":2},{"name":"East Midlands","ons_code":"E","signature_count":6},{"name":"West Midlands","ons_code":"F","signature_count":1},{"name":"South West","ons_code":"K","signature_count":2}],"other_parliamentary_business":[]}}}
