Petition In praise of Greater Manchester Police

That this Government praises the officers of Greater Manchester Police and other forces who contributed, for their handling of the 'riots' in Manchester City Centre and parts of Greater Manchester on the evening of Tuesday, 9th August 2011.

The dedication and professionalism of all officers involved, under extreme duress and provocation, made the whole of Greater Manchester proud.

That the Government further praise the collaboration between the Police, local media, especially the Manchester Evening News and the courts to bring swift justice to those thieves that tried to wreck our City Centre for their own selfish gain.

In the light of recent events, we call on the Government to do a full review of the police funding settlement that means that Greater Manchester may lose a number of much-needed front-line officers.
