Rejected petition No luxurious items for convicted criminals.
More details
The purpose of a prison is to deter those who would otherwise commit crimes and to make it less likely that those who serve a prison sentence will commit crimes after their release. 50% of convicted criminals released from prison go on to commit further offences, in England and Wales this costs the tax payer up to £10bn a year.
This petition is to remove all luxurious items from convicted criminal’s prison cells, why should convicted criminals get luxurious items such as televisions, computer games, pool tables, chocolate and cigarettes. They deserve nothing more than a blanket. Why should tax payers pay for a convicted criminal to lead a better life than they do?
Is this an incentive or deterrent to commit crime?
