Rejected petition Allow the lords to table a motion to kill off the cuts to tax credits.
The Lords have been warned, threatened, by the government that their fatal motion to kill the tax credit cuts will trigger a constituency crisis; and that they risked a renewed push to weaken the powers of the upper house if they refused to back down. The lords backed down. Powers are weakened.
More details
Tax credit cuts will come into affect in 2016. Other changes, like the 'living' wage, will not stop millions of families and children falling deeper into debt and poverty.
The IFS has stated that over 3.5 million poor people will be over £1000 worse off when cuts to tax credits take place. You can read their report here: http://www.ifs.org.uk/publications/7980

This petition was rejected
Why was this petition rejected?
It’s about something that the UK Government or Parliament is not directly responsible for.
The decision to table, or not to table, the motion you describe is the responsibility of an individual member of the House of Lords, not the UK Government or Parliament as a whole.
We only reject petitions that don’t meet the petition standards.
