Petition Allow 'other' gender option on legal documents, such as passports.
The lack of legal recognition of non-binary genders results in gender dysphoria in many non-binary individuals due to not being recognised as their true gender identity. This leads to higher mental illness and suicide rates in the non binary community compared to the national average.
More details
At least 1.3% of the UK population is in some way transgender or gender variant, of which 30.2% are nonbinary. However, this is likely to much higher, taking into account the fact that non-binary gender identities are not legally recognised and rarely recognised socially. As with binary trans people, many non-binary people experience extreme gender dysphoria caused by being misgendered. With legal recognition social recognition will follow, thus decreasing the mental illness and suicide rates within the non-binary community.
