The UK, 2nd largest defence exporter, after the US. 10 of the top 50 producers are UK companies. The Arms industry makes 0.7% of UK workforce. 3,000 government export licences, worth over £12bn. The UK Trade & Investment department, the Defence & Security Organisation, promotes arms exports & employs 130 staff. The arms trade costs taxpayers an estimated £760 million every year through government subsidies. This includes funding for: research & development, marketing & export credit guarantees.
