Rejected petition Stop increasing MPs wages and instead increase nurses pay. They save lives...!!

Nurses pay has been limited yet members of parliament pay is increasing...for doing what?! Working 15 hour days? No chance. As well as making future nurses pay for fees without a hope in hell of living whilst learning, there is already a major shortage and our nurses are being run to the ground.

Why was this petition rejected?

It’s about something that the UK Government or Parliament is not directly responsible for.

The Government and Parliament don’t have the power to set MPs’ pay. That power was given by Parliament to the Independent Parliamentary Standards Authority (IPSA) in 2010, so that after 2012 MPs no longer had control over their own pay. IPSA conducted a public consultation after 2012 and decided what the salaries of MPs should be after the election.
