Most houses now have double glazing. With this, comes improved sealing. But humans need fresh air and the only way to get it is to open window, which lets out much of the heat saved by glazing and insulation. A review should be set up to consider changing building regulations to incorporate heat recovery ventilation systems for new build and grants for home-owners retro-fit. The systems could offer considerable real-world savings and have a dramatic impact on the countries carbon footprint.
