Rejected petition Scrap the policies preventing sexually active gay men from donating blood.
Blood donation is essential for survival of many patients in the UK. The NHS is constantly advertising for more blood donors due to a high demand for life saving transfusions. Despite being highly discriminatory the policy also unnecessarily limits donations which many patients desperately need.
More details
The policy prevents donations from homosexual individuals who have been sexually active 12 months prior to donation. This policy discriminates against homosexuals who take great joy in donating and saving lives, it also unnecessarily reduces donations. During 2015 the NHS has seen a 40% reduction in new blood donors in comparison to a decade before (1).
