Petition Create level one "supported apprenticeships" for young people with SEN.

A supported apprenticeship, at the lower minimum wage for apprentices, would encourage employers to "risk" taking on a young person with a learning difficulty and would widen opportunities for college leavers with special educational needs.

More details

30% of all young people with statements of SEN at 16 are NEET at 18 compared to 13% of their peers.

7% of people with moderate or severe learning difficulties are in work but 65% want to.

L2 qualifications are out of reach for many young people with learning difficulties; 5+ GCSEs at grade A* to C was 22% (cf 69% with no SEND at KS4.

The National Audit Office report estimates that supporting one person with a learning disability into employment could increase that person’s income by 55-95%.
