Rejected petition Reduce the price of train tickets
Train tickets in the UK are an absolute joke. Many students will be forced to use public transport to visit potential universities but some lose out on that chance due to the extortionate fares. How can anyone get anywhere in the country when prices are so high and we don't have an alternative?

This petition was rejected
Why was this petition rejected?
It’s about something that the UK Government or Parliament is not directly responsible for.
We can't accept your petition because the UK Government and Parliament aren't responsible for the issue you raise. The price of train tickets is the responsibility of train operating companies.
While the UK Government and Parliament do not directly set the price of train tickets, the Government can set the rate by which train operating companies can raise ticket prices. You could start a new petition calling on the Government to alter this rate, or for other changes to the way in which train fares are set.
We only reject petitions that don’t meet the petition standards.
