In breakdown of relationships the absent parent is often powerless in obtaining information in relation to their child's education health and welfare. Unless safeguarding issues absent parent has automatic right to have direct access to health Records/results and school progress reports/exam results

Asking hospital staff to be included in dialogue about their child as absent parent is frustrating and seems currently relies on asking the parent with care. There should be a set procedure in relation to this which should be documented and highlighted to ensure there are clear expectations and outcomes. Parents don't stop being parents Just because the relationship between their partner breaks down. There needs to be equity wuth both parents not automatic to parent with care.
