Currently people can and do abuse the system. One partner stops work for 3 months just prior to renewal to show less income and obtain greater revised amount. Then starts again after renewal.

Calculation should take into account full income of the previous year and there was an overpaid tax credit amount, then it should be recovered either within the next years tax credits or otherwise.

This country cannot afford benefits to be abused in this way.
