Rejected petition Support every child's right to question, and help develop critical thinking

Those responsible for teaching children are to have a duty of care to establish a context where received wisdom is fallible, and critical thinking valued.

Religion or "faith" provides no grounds for exemption from this duty.

Legislate and take measures to enforce this in all schools.

More details

Many people recall their history classes as a series of facts rather than a rich tapestry of sometimes conflicting stories where the evidence varies in quality.

We are living in times that prove, with deadly effect, the consequences of dogmatic teaching of religion.

Why was this petition rejected?

It’s not clear what the petition is asking the UK Government or Parliament to do.

We can't accept your petition in its current form as it does not call for a clear action from the UK Government and Parliament. You could start a petition which clearly outlines what you would like the Government to do to help develop critical thinking.
