Important:

This petition was submitted during the 2015-2017 parliament

Rejected petition Stop under 16s from using social media sites Facebook, Instagram & Snapchat.

They are at risk of bullying, peer pressure to conform to social expectations and are at a huge safeguarding risk due to choices they are making due to social media pressures! They are too young to understand the implications that social media has on their lives and their futures!

More details

Children posting inappropriate pictures online, posting inappropriate messages about themselves and others! Causing themselves and others to self harm, to have emotional/mental health issues! It's crazy what our children are doing to themselves and each other!!! As their mothers, fathers, relatives, friends, teachers, guardians-it's our responsibility to stop this from happening! We need to put a stop to social media websites and protect our under 16s until they can make informed choices safely.

This petition was rejected

Why was this petition rejected?

It’s about something that the UK Government or Parliament is not directly responsible for.

Age policies are the responsibility of social media sites.

If you would like Parliament to change the law, to make it illegal to offer social media accounts to those under 16, then you could start a petition asking for that.

We only reject petitions that don’t meet the petition standards.
