For the police to take action against motorists who to stay in lane 2 of a three lane the motorway when lane 1 is clear. This effectively reduces a three lane motorway to two lanes and frustrates those blocked behind. Some HGVs, that cannot use lane 3, often tailgate the lane-hogger and some motorists under-take using lane 1. Both these actions are dangerous and can lead to accidents involving innocent parties.
Similar action to be taken against lane-hoggers on motorways of more than three lanes.
