Rejected petition Do not allow UK Zoological Society to name primates after Africans. e.g. Afia
Africans have been subjected to comparisons to primates as forms of racial abuse. Naming a gorilla after an African makes people uncomfortable and one would say the zoo is promoting another form of 'monkey-chant racism' without giving it much thought.
