Closed petition No to reintroducing the death penalty
Closed on
Capital Punishment does not work as a deterrent to crime.
Justice is not perfect and mistakes can be made but when one party has been put to death there is no going back.
The cost of putting one prisoner to death is the equivalent of 80 years in prison.
There is a real risk that minorities would be over-represented amongst the executed due to reduced access to effective legal representation.
Killing a killer is too easy and represents no justice for the victim.
People should be punished through their lives not by their lives.
