Rejected petition Why do MPs deserve a pay rise when our Troops do not?

Government proposed pay freeze of 1% for the UK Armed Forces is an insult when compared with the self voted 11% pay rise of MP's.

More details

As you, the Government, wish to freeze the pay of the Armed Forces, perhaps you should freeze MPs pay first, and that of the PM. Alternatively you could debate why MPs that do not place they're lives in danger deserve a pay rise when our Soldiers, Sailors and Airmen do not.

Why was this petition rejected?

It’s about something that the UK Government or Parliament is not directly responsible for.

The Government and Parliament don’t have the power to set MPs’ pay. That power was given by Parliament to the Independent Parliamentary Standards Authority (IPSA) in 2010, so that after 2012 MPs no longer had control over their own pay. IPSA conducted a public consultation after 2012 and decided what the salaries of MPs should be after the election.

If you would like to contact IPSA about its decision, here’s how to contact them:

We already have a petition about pay rises for the armed forces, which you ight like to sign:

We only reject petitions that don’t meet the petition standards.
