Petition Make 'may contain' warnings mandatory on food labels.
You're a parent to a child with a severe allergy. You spend time in the shop studying food labels. You give your child something you think is safe. Suddenly their lips, tongue and throat swell. They fight for breath. Lose consciousness. Where's the EpiPen? In their school bag? Quick! QUICK!

Food producers must show common allergens in the ingredients lists of their products, but if a product 'may contain' allergens due to cross contamination it is the manufacturer who decides whether to detail that on the label.
For some this could be life threatening, for others it could cause weeks of discomfort.
We ask that the Food Standards Agency ensure that consumers are made aware when there is genuine potential for traces of common allergens to be present in packaged food.
