In Australia most noteablly, but in other countries to, voting in all official elections (local and general elections) is a legal requirement. Punishable under court of law, usually with a hefty fine.

With many local councils registered a 35% or lower turn out rate, democracy is all but dead in this country (cited by BBC) I want to ensure that we get large turnouts for general elections, local elections and national referendums (eg EU). This will have the knock on effect of bring the power back to the public of the UK and reinstating a true reflection of what the nation wants as its governments
