Rejected petition To return all of the Elgin Marbles to their homeland Greece
The Parthenon was constructed in 432 B.C,Athens. The building was destroyed in 1687 by the Turks. In 1799 Lord Elgin,British Ambassador of Constantinople removed the remaining sculptural artwork, including the temple frieze, metopes, and pediment statues and in the process damaged the artefacts.
More details
The British Museum should return the marbles to Athens for future generations to appreciate and with today’s technology a 3D full-scale model can be made capturing the beauty of the marbles and these models can be retained by the British museum. Spectators would have a greater appreciation for the marbles in Greece than in London because the Acropolis was the original site for the art and architecture.
