Rejected petition Stop deleting educational resources from the BBC website like Recipes & iWonder

The Government, in a white paper, says the BBC needs to be "more distinctive" and not compete with online newspapers. This means sections of the BBC website like recipes, iWonder, features, local news and travel will be deleted. These have already been paid for by licence fee payers and should not go.

This petition was rejected

Why was this petition rejected?

It’s about something that the UK Government or Parliament is not directly responsible for.

This decision is the responsibility of the BBC. The BBC is an independent body governed by a Royal Charter. Under the terms of that Charter, the BBC is operationally and editorially independent of government and there is no provision for the government to intervene in the BBC’s day-to-day operations.

We only reject petitions that don’t meet the petition standards.
