Rejected petition Prevent littering - £50 on-the-spot fine for people caught littering our streets

Billions of tons of litter are dumped into the ocean every year. Many people litter our streets with cigarette butts, fast food waste and lots of other things. None of this is good for our environment so we think it should stop.

This petition was rejected

Why was this petition rejected?

It’s not clear what the petition is asking the UK Government or Parliament to do.

We're not sure what action you'd like the Government or Parliament to take. There are already fines for littering in the UK:

http://www.legislation.gov.uk/ukpga/2005/16/part/3/crossheading/offence-of-dropping-litter

Although the fine imposed is at the discretion of the responsible local council, the minimum fine which can be imposed for littering is already £50:

We only reject petitions that don’t meet the petition standards.
