Rejected petition Increase the fine for the destruction/damage to a tree protected by a TPO
Developers (Theakston Land) were unable to build houses on an area with 4 protected trees. They simply destroyed the trees and paid a pathetic fine of £3000 a tree. This is nothing compared to the millions that they will make from the developement.

Why was this petition rejected?
It’s not clear what the petition is asking the UK Government or Parliament to do.
We cannot accept your petition because it's not clear what action you would like the UK Government or Parliament to take. The level of fine imposed will be determined by the courts. If the fine is imposed in the Crown Court, there is no upper limit to the fine which can be imposed.
This website sets out more information about how penalties for breach of a TPO are determined:
You could start a new petition asking Parliament change the law, to set a specific minimum fine for breaches of TPOs.
We only reject petitions that don’t meet the petition standards.
