Rejected petition BBC should apologise to Cliff Richard for broadcasting live raid on his property
The BBC broadcast live, a raid on Cliff Richard's property, by Yorkshire police, because of false allegations of child sex abuse. Without Cliff even knowing. The first he knew of it was seeing it live on his TV whilst away. Since then Cliff has been found completely innocent of all charges.

Why was this petition rejected?
It’s about something that the UK Government or Parliament is not directly responsible for.
A decision to issue an apology would be the responsibility of the BBC. The BBC is an independent body governed by a Royal Charter. Under the terms of that Charter, the BBC is operationally and editorially independent of government and there is no provision for the government to intervene in the day-to-day running of the BBC.
We only reject petitions that don’t meet the petition standards.
