Rejected petition Give the right to vote to all UK expatriates aged 18 or over.
Under current law UK citizens living overseas for 15 or more years automatically loose the right to vote in UK General Elections and referendums.
More details
This disenfranchisement leaves UK expatriats without a voice in UK elections that have a direct impact on their lives as the referendum of 23/06/16 ("Brexit") has demonstrated. There are an estimated 1.2 million UK citizens living in the EU, many have been deprived of the right to vote in the "Brexit" referendum. The outcome of the 23/06/16 referendum has a direct impact on these expats and so it is fair that they too have a voice in determining Britain's relationship with Europe.
