Petition Civil Liberties and Social Media
More details
We, the undersigned, wish to oppose all measures by the government to grant further arbitrary powers to the police, restrict access to communications networks or impose other restrictions on freedom of movement and communication on its citizens outside the court system.
We thus urge the government to formally state that it is not consulting on and is opposed to the introduction of: a "Kill Switch" preventing communication on social networks or encrypted messaging services; granting the police the ability to trace otherwise anonymous people via social media; wider curfew powers restricting the freedom of movement of innocent civilians; any loss of the right to public anonymity by legislating against the use of masks or veils; granting the police any further powers to intercept, decrypt or read personal and private messages outside the context of a formal police investigation.
We regard these as vital in the maintenance of our civil liberties as a nation.
