During the official election or referendum campaigning period it should be a criminal offence to make pledges to the public that are extremely unlikely or the politician / party has no intention of keeping.
Politicians should clearly state if they are making a pledge to the public or stating hopes.
Pledges made by the politician should be clearly costed and have a clear plan of action with a timetable.
If a statement is not a pledge or promise the politician should clearly state he would like the following to occur, but it is unlikely due to the following reasons and examples given.
If a politician fails to meet a pledge they should be forced to explain why, on a televised program, their reason for abandoning the pledge and referred to the The High Court
