Closed petition Strict liability law for road traffic collisions involving bicycles

Closed on

Cyclists in the UK regularly face an unnecessary level of intimidation by motorised road users of all classes, compared to that experienced by cyclists in many other European countries.

Many motorists’ dangerous behaviour towards cyclists predominates on the misconception that cyclists are "inferior" to them, rather than the more important factor of their vastly greater vulnerability.

The law should be changed to match that in the Netherlands, such that in any collision between a motor vehicle and bicycle, there is an automatic presumption of 100% of fault on the part of the motorist unless it can be credibly proven otherwise.
