Rejected petition Don't invoke Article 50 before holding a referendum on the new negotiated terms
The government shall undertake not to invoke Article 50 of the Lisbon Treaty without first holding a UK wide referendum on the newly negotiated trade and legal terms, with options to accept the new terms or retain existing terms.
More details
Given that politicians on all sides of the In/Out referendum have shown themselves to be untrustworthy, and the fact that many on both sides are confused and concerned about an unknown future outside the EU, the people should be given a say on any newly negotiated terms the government seek to enact on exit from the EU.
This could help stabilise current market uncertainty.
It will give time to negotiate the best possible deal.
It will allow people to vote on concrete plans for their future.
