Petition Change parking charges

Make the Department of Transport directly responsible for all parking charges. To include all on-street and off-street parking on both public and private land.

Parking charges should be the same throughout the United Kingdom irrespective, e.g. 10 pence for an hour, 20 pence for 3 hours, 30 pence for 5 hours, 50 pence for 8 hours and so on. Rates should be set on a national basis and not by local councils, other public bodies or private individuals or companies. Charges might be doubled if the area/location is patrolled to ensure the safety of vehicles and their contents. The provision of patrols to make the administrator legally liable for damage or loss.

Revenue from parking charges to be added to grants to local authorities on an agreed scale.

Thereby removing incentives for local council etc. to impose excessive charges.
