Rejected petition Those who want it can retain joint UK/European citizenship after Brexit

Joint citizenship would allow those who chose it to hold a European passport instead of a British one, with all the same rights and privileges. They would also retain the protection of European human rights legislation. This right would only be open to those who are already British citizens.

More details

Dual citizenship is allowed in the UK.
It is already well established in the UK that you can be a British citizen and also a citizen of other countries.
Under this proposal no one would be asked to give up any form citizenship they wanted to retain.
But also no one would be forced to retain a form of citizenship they did not want.
This would not be available to anyone who was not already a British citizen.
This would allay irrational fears of it being a "back door" to British citizenship.
