Rejected petition To make it a criminal offence to deceive the public while holding public office

A Mp’s legitimacy stems from being elected as a representative by their constituents.
People make rational decisions based on the information they are provided with.
If false information is provided it is harder for the electorate to make fact based decisions based on reality that affect them.

More details

Decisions based on untrue information carry less legitimacy than those based on factual information as they lack a bearing on reality.

I plead the commons to create a bill that would make deceiving the public illegal; carrying different degrees of penalty depending on the implications and severity of the lie ranging from a £10’000 pound fine to removal from office and even a jail term.

all political campaigns must become fact based to allow the electorate to make rational decisions
