Electricity pylons are defacing Great Britain's beautiful countryside, and perhaps harming the health of those who live near them. The whole-life cost of burying transmission cables may not be much different from building above-ground. Transmission companies should be required by the regulator to justify why they should transmit electricity above ground. The default should be to bury transmission lines.
