Rejected petition Stop UK police and other public camera vans from flouting the law
For some time police and camera vehicles have been flouting the law by parking on clearways, hatched areas and other areas of the roads when stopping is prohibited.
There are also safety concerns for the person in the back, usually parked with no warnings or illumination.
More details
The police have been using an exemption of "ambulance, fire and police purposes" that is built into most road acts, (e.g A12 road act) for clearways .
This, to most, would suggest emergency, but the police read this as they, or a camera van with permission can park there to 'watch' the traffic. Speeding is a moving offence, therefore, when there is a case for 'police purpose, is is gone just as quick.
Safety wise - what the police view be it I parked and sat in the back of a caravan.
