Health and social welfare funding is a subject very dear to voters but one whose effects run longer than the lives of any Parliament, or the careers of many Civil Servants or politicians. Whether the UK has a US or Scandinavian model for health and social provision should be subject to plebiscite.

I am a hospital consultant and fellow of the Royal College of Physicians, and feel that this is one of the bigger issues of relevance to people currently, and one which is not adequately exposed or debated within the short lives of Parliaments.
