Rejected petition Abolish parking fees in retail parks

Recently I was fined for parking too long in a retail park.
I suggest that if you want our custom in numerous restaurants and shops, we should be allowed to park longer than 150 minutes without being fined.

This petition was rejected

Why was this petition rejected?

It’s about something that the UK Government or Parliament is not directly responsible for.

The petition calls for the abolition of parking fees on private land.

Neither the UK Government nor the UK Parliament have the power to direct owners of retail parks on private land not to impose charges on persons who park there. The imposition of parking charges is a matter for the owner of the land.

A petition which called on the Government to introduce legislation to prohibit the imposition of parking charges in retail parks on private land would be more likely to be in order: if a petition in those terms were submitted it would be examined again.

We only reject petitions that don’t meet the petition standards.
